AnimO is partnering with Mina Martinez's rescue effort to find 50 adult dogs placement in adoptive or foster homes. Please read this FAQ before contacting Mina about taking in one of these animals in need.
Disclaimer: AnimO is a sanctuary specializing in exotic animals, not a cat or dog shelter or rescue, and does not typically handle public adoptions or foster placement. However, given these extraordinary circumstances, AnimO is happy to help with temporary housing and resources for these animals in the interest of getting them to good homes ASAP.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FOSTERING?
Getting to know about the dogs in a home setting - getting valuable insight on their fears, what toys they love the most, etc. - will help us find the best homes for them.
Fostering can be very rewarding! Even if your lifestyle or circumstance means that you can't keep a pet forever, you can help an animal in need until they can be placed in a permanent home.
For both the foster caregivers and AnimO, fostering can help with costs. For the initial expenses, if you can visit a veterinarian that works with us, we can help you get your foster dogs spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, or otherwise given initial medical care at a fraction of the price it would cost for a regular pet. Day to day expenses like food, toys, beds, collars, and grooming are the responsibility of the foster caregiver. AnimO will provide as much of these items as possible, but inventory is limited.
AnimO will have more space and resources available continue saving lives.
DO YOU GET PAID TO FOSTER?
Unfortunately, no, fostering is not a paid position. If AnimO is not able to cover your new pet's medical expenses, we may be able to connect you with a vet that works with us that can offer discounted services. The foster caregiver is expected to handle daily needs like food, toys, beds, collars, and grooming.
WHAT SHOULD I PREPARE?
Ceramic or stainless steel food and water bowls of appropriate size
Flat-buckle collar
Heavy duty leash (NOT a retractable leash)
Back up leash (also heavy duty and not retractable)
Crate
Dog bed(s)
Food
Treats
Toys
Grooming equipment such as bushes, shampoos, nail clippers etc.
Be sure to budget additional funds for any medical issues that may arise, high-end grooming if you want to spoil your dog with a spa day, or boarding facilities, dog walkers, or doggy day care if you travel or work outside the home.
HOW DO I GET THE DOG TO ME?
The preferred method is a physical pickup from AnimO in Togane, Japan.
If the distance is too great, please contact individual airlines about animal shipping in or from Japan. You may also be able to find a transportation company specializing in pet transport. Please note that Narita is more conveniently located than Haneda for AnimO.
If AnimO is within driving distance but a car is not available to you, we can try to make arrangements through our transportation network group on Facebook.

WHAT IS THE APPLICATION PROCESS?
For these dogs, please write a message including the following information:
1. your location
2. if you are interested in fostering or adopting
3. from when
4. if you can pick the dog up in Chiba, if you can arrange transportation, or if you need help with transport. AnimO cannot cover transportation costs, but will help where possible.
